Today, the Mayor and City Council have enacted an emergency ordinance that reopens certain parks in Tega Cay. Effective immediately, the athletic fields at Runde Park, Turner Field and Lookout Park are now open to public use. Pitcairn Park’s boat launch and lake access at the Beach & Swim Center are also open for public use. In accordance with the Governor’s Executive Orders and CDC guidelines, groups must remain at no more than three (3) unless they reside in the same household and social distancing must still be followed. ALL PLAYGROUNDS AND OTHER FACILITIES NOT LISTED HERE REMAIN CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC until at least May 13, 2020.
So what can you do and what can’t you do? Parents and children wanting to go to an athletic field and kick a ball around or play catch or take batting practice at Runde Park… you’re all clear. Want to go out a fly a kite at Turner with your kid…you are good to go. Three friends want to spread out and kick a ball around…you’re all clear too. Have a valid fishing license and want to fish along the shores around the Beach & Swim Center? That’s allowed too. Looking for a good place to put your canoe or kayak in the lake? As long as you have a parking sticker, you can go to the Beach & Swim Center and launch below the volleyball court. Want to get all your best friends to meet you at Turner or Runde play a game of football or go with all your friends to swim off the docks at Pitcairn? Sorry, that’s still not allowed and TCPD will make you leave. Parents, make sure to read that last part to your teenagers. Oh, and Windjammer Park is still closed for construction, which is coming along nicely by the way.
Basically, use common sense and do what you feel is best for you and your family, just do it in small groups and distanced from each other. Regardless, get out and enjoy this beautiful weather we are having. Exercise is great for the mind and body and sunshine is good for the soul.
