The City has been informed the processing of mixed recycling at the York County Material Recovery Facility (MRF) will be temporarily suspended, effective immediately, due to a potential COVID-19 exposure. If you chose to place recycle items in your cart, it will still be collected, but trucks will be diverted to the landfill for disposal instead of the MRF. On your own you may still take items to any of the County’s Convenience Centers (closest one to Tega Cay is on Hwy 160 at Baxter Village) as those operations will still continue. This closure only affects mixed (co-mingled) recycling. This closure is temporary and may only affect collections in Tega Cay next Tuesday (Lake Ridge, Serenity Point, River Lakes, Cadence, Stonecrest Villas, and Cameron Creek). We will alert you once the MRF has resumed full operations.
While we have your attention, please pay attention to what you are putting in your recycle carts. IT'S NOT A SPARE TRASH CART. Hard to believe we are still having to remind folks of this, but here we are. NO PLASTIC BAGS. NO GLASS. NO YARD DEBRIS. NO STYROFOAM. NO TRASH. NO RUBBER HOSES (garden or otherwise). NO BICYCLES. NO ORGANICS OF ANY TYPE. NO CAR PARTS.
Paper, cardboard, aluminum and metal cans, plastic jugs and jars are all acceptable. Everything else needs to go to in the trash cart. There is a glass collection bin at the City maintenance facility on Tega Cay Dr. and at the Baxter Convenience Center. There are collection sites for plastic bags/plastic film (thank you Lions Club) at the Beach & Swim Center, Lake Ridge Amenity Center and the lower entrance to the Glennon Center. You can also take your aluminum cans, in bags, to either fire station and put in the collection trailers to help support pediatric burn patients. See, you have lots of options. If you forget, you can always go to our website and check out the Waste Wizard app. It will tell you when your collection days are and where you can take items (recycle or trash).
