SafeWise just released its “20 Safest Cities in South Carolina” report on August 21, 2018 and Tega Cay has been rated #2! To compile this report, they reviewed the 2016 FBI crime report statistics and population data. Cities that fell below identified population thresholds (2,894) or that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI were excluded from the ranking system.
Their evaluation is based on the number of reported violent crimes in each city. If there was a tie, we also factored in the number of property crimes. To level the playing field, they calculated the rate of crimes per 1,000 people in each city. This makes it easier to directly compare the likelihood of these crimes occurring in cities with vastly different populations.
SafeWise security analyst Tamarra Kemsley says, “All twenty of South Carolina’s safest cities fell below the national average of violent crime. What’s more, all but six of them reported rates that at least cut that average in half.”
