TEGA CAY, SC.,– (September 21, 2015) A brand new disc golf course is now officially open in Tega Cay. Popularity of the sport in the area has been on the rise over the past several years due largely in part to the World Championships held at Winthrop University in Rock Hill. During a facility needs survey conducted by the City two years ago, disc golf was one of the things residents requested. City Council approved funding for the course in the 2014-2015 budget and city staff reached out to Innova Disc in Rock Hill to help design the course layout. The course has nine holes begins at Lookout Park located between Shoreline Parkway and Newberry Lane and is easily accessible from the park or the trail system. Also installed were two practice cages close to the park for the novice “golfer” to hone their skills before hitting the course.
Parks & Recreation Director, Joey Blethen, states “We are excited to offer a unique recreational experience to our residents and the surrounding communities.
“So many young people are looking for more ways to enjoy their community” states Mayor George Sheppard. “Disc golf is one more addition to the numerous recreational amenities Tega Cay offers. It is a great way to be active while spending time with friends. I am looking forward to seeing our residents of all ages use the course for many years to come.”
