Stormwater originates from rainfall and other precipitation that runs off of surfaces all over the City - rooftops, streets, lawns, etc. Stormwater makes its way into natural water sources and takes everything from City surfaces with it to these areas.

Maintenance
The City is working hard to maintain the Good Life in Tega Cay, including protecting our water quality and preventing flooding problems.  The City studied stormwater management issues in the area and developed a plan to meet local needs. The plan includes these priorities for the stormwater program:

• Meet federal stormwater requirements
• Maintain the stormwater drainage system
• Improve the drainage system
• Manage new development

When fertilizing your lawns, washing your cars, or just generally spring cleaning around your home, please be cautious of the chemicals your are using. Don't over water your yard as this may wash harmful chemicals into the storm drains which eventually make their way to the creeks, rivers and the lake. Use organic fertilizers and pre-emergents when possible. If you are washing your car, look for bio-degradable soap. This will have less of a negative impact on the environment around you. Do not dispose of any old paint or chemicals into the storm drains. It is illegal and will result in fines.

Each resident is assessed 1 ERU (Equivilent Residential Unit), or $96/year.  1 ERU represents 3,500 sq. ft. of impervious surface.  Commercial Property Owners are charge based on the number of ERUs on their property.  If you have questions about your bill, or your account status, please contact Dora Perry at (803) 548-3512 x. 122.
