| Tega Cay Police Department • Chief Evelsizer attended the monthly DEU Board of Directors meeting. • Lt. Holland and Cpl. Bell attended a family night at Baxter. Officers conducted a demonstration with the canine unit and gave a safety talk to the adults and kids. • Lt. Holland and Cpl. Bell attended the JR Police Officers Camp at the Leroy Springs Complex in Fort Mill and conducted a demonstration with the canines and also a safety talk. • Lt. Holland attended the YMCA Summer Camp at Riverview Elementary School and spoke with two groups of children about the danger of drugs and conducted a demonstration with canine. • National Night Out was held on August 3 and was a tremendous success. Seven individual neighborhoods participated in National Night Out this year. • The R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) class is filling up quickly and will be held August 16, 17, and 18 at the Glennon Center. • Officer Dunham assisted in instructing three, Alive at 25 classes. • Captain Nelson, Lt. Spence, and Evidence Technician Winger attended South Carolina Preservation of Evidence Act Training in Columbia. • Captain Nelson and Lt. Spence attended Taser Liability Training in Charlotte. Public Works • Sidewalk project is about 95% complete. Contractor should be finished by August 20th. • Bids were received from 5 companies for the C-Fund road improvements. Staff is currently working with County staff to add additional projects to the scope of work as all bids came in under the amount of funding approved by County Council. TCUD • Staff is continuing to conduct routine maintenance at the lift stations. Pumps are running more due to more usage. Horticulture • 52 trees were removed as part of the Hazardous Tree Removal grant. Staff and Contractor also took down an additional 10 trees that were dead or dying. As part of the grant, staff will be installing 52 trees in various locations around the City. Storm Water • Staff anticipates the Marquesas Ave. cul-de-sac project being completed by August 13th. 8” pipe is being replaced with a 24” smooth wall pipe and the catch-bin was doubled in size. • Staff will be putting together the Annual Audit that is due on October 1st to SCDHEC. • Committee finished half of the MCMs they have been working on and directed staff to complete the remaining ones. Beach & Swim Center • Memberships are at 610. • Rentals at the facility continue to increase over last year. This is in addition to the monthly Weight Watchers meetings and a new monthly contract with another outside group. • Water Aerobics continue to show signs of success this year and the early bird lap swim is still a huge success with the members. Staff is currently working on cross-marketing ideas for 2011 between this facility and the Golf Club. • Staff is working on setting up electronic registration for returning members for 2011. Boat Storage • There lot is full. Planning • The Planning Commission met on July 12th and approved the revisions to the Comprehensive Plan, with a Public Hearing on August 16th. They also approved the revisions to Ordinance 50, with a proposed Public Hearing on September 20th. • Drake Capital has submitted two final plats for acceptance – 36 lots on Bluebell in Pod A, and 48 lots on Rosemary and Fresia in Pod F. There has been a technical review of the plats, and all comments will be incorporated into the plats prior to submittal to the Planning Commission in September. Zoning • The formerly-reported rezoning request submittal package for property adjacent to City Hall is now complete, and there is a Public Hearing planned for September 7th. Last month’s report of this being denied by the Commission two years ago was erroneous – the owner rescinded his request prior to the Commission considering the case. Board of Appeals • There are no zoning or building hearings scheduled in July. Building • Two commercial projects are continuing – PDQ in Graystone is in the rough-in stage, and Asian Roll and Grill in Stonecrest Village should be opening soon. • Although a building permit application has not been received, we have learned that several demising walls in Graystone Commons are scheduled to be removed – apparently to accommodate additional space for a potential new tenant. Fire Marshall • Although it took four visits and multiple discussions, Walmart has satisfactorily passed their fire inspection with no violations. Parks & Recreation • Next Concert is scheduled for August 21st at Runde Park. Opening act begins at 6 Pm and the headliner at 7 PM. • Registration for fall sports ended on August 7th with approximately 1,100 registrants. • Staff and volunteers are actively working on plans for this year’s Senior Games. More activities have been added and the event will now be stretched across an entire week with a dinner and banquet at the end. The games are scheduled to be held the week of September 27. Finance Department • Next Finance Committee meeting is scheduled for Thurs., August 12, 2010. • There have been 5 Budget Workshops and the 6th Budget Workshop will be held at the end of the City Council meeting on August 16, 2010. Administration • Five parcels of City owned property have been advertised for sale. • City’s bond rating has been upgraded to A1 from A3. • Preparing to release Property and General Liability insurance policy RFP. A Request for Qualifications has been placed in advertisement with a due date of August 30th. • Continuing discussions with Southern Management concerning annexation of future elementary school site adjacent to Tega Cay. City has been contacted regarding water and sewer service. City has met with Southern management on-site to identify utilities tie-in points. • Proceeding as directed by Council regarding Stonecrest. |
