Editorial- Response to the article in the Ft. Mill Times

Dear Fellow Citizens:

Below is an Editorial submitted to the Editor of the Fort Mill Times this morning in reference to the article "Threats Scare Caterer away from Tega Cay".

Dear Editor:

We are extremely frustrated and dismayed by your article, "Threats Scare Caterer away from Tega Cay". The story is based on hearsay and not one proven fact is presented in the article. We have read the emails and the blog postings that were sent to us by the Giannatos’. The allegations presented as factual to the City by the Fort Mill Times were and are extremely serious and totally unfounded. Did your reporter ask the Giannatos’ Family to explain why the threatening emails, phone calls, and blog postings are different from the letter that they sent to the City Manager on January 28th? Did your reporter ask the Giannatos’ for any proof of their allegations? If so, why wasn’t this included in the article?

Tega Cay is an extremely welcoming, diverse community that is undeserving of the treatment given in the Fort Mill Times article. We live in a City of people that are very concerned about their fellow resident’s and who always are willing to pitch in wherever there is a need. This story paints the City of Tega Cay and its resident’s with a completely different brush. If information exists that can substantiate the allegations made, please make that information available so that the proper steps may be taken. If not, please own the journalistic error and state the same to the readership.

This story is nothing but pure sensationalist journalism that is churning up a great deal of emotion in our community. We are extremely disappointed that you would print such a story without any fact checking. What happened to journalistic ethics?

A printed apology to the citizen’s of Tega Cay is in order.

Sincerely,

George Sheppard – Mayor
Dottie Hersey – Mayor Pro Tem
John Dervay – Councilman
Stephen Perkins - Councilman
